Allenby withdraws from Humana Challenge after Hawaii attack

Professional golfer Robert Allenby has withdrawn from the Humana Challenge on the advice of his personal doctor.

Allenby was beaten and robbed after being kidnapped from a wine bar near Waikiki on Friday night, his caddy said.

According to reports, Allenby was dropped off in a park 6 1/2 miles from where he was taken, following a night out after missing the cut at the Sony Open in Honolulu.

Allenby released a statement Tuesday morning that said his withdraw from the Humana Challenge will enable him to ensure a full recovery prior to rejoining the PGA Tour. He anticipates a full recovery and looks forward to returning to the tour in the near future.

He also said he wanted to thank the local authorities in Hawaii as well as the PGA Tour for their assistance over the weekend.

He’s grateful for the kind words of support he’s received from many people.

Police are still investigating the incident and no suspects have been identified.
