Van runs up embankment, closes Cook

A part of a major road in Palm Desert is closed after a van hit a tree.

It happened about 4:30 on Cook Street when the driver of the van lost control, drove up an embankment and hit the tree.

The accident closed Cook Street is between Gerald Ford and Frank Sinatra.

“The vehicle was wedged up the tree a little so we had to stabilize the vehicle and then perform an extrication by removing the doors to get the driver out, just because of the danger of the vehicle sliding,” said CALFIRE Battalion Chief Rick Griggs.

A man and a woman were transported via ambulance to the hospital with minor injuries.

No word what caused the driver to veer off the road.

The road is expected to be back open anytime now.
