Wildfire forces out campers

Visitors to a campground in California’s Sierra Nevada are being escorted out as firefighters battle a wildfire.

Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Park spokesman Michael Theune said Saturday that the fire had spread to less than one square mile, but park visitors near the flames are being asked to leave as a precaution. The fire started near the Potwisha Campground, in the foothills southeast of Fresno.

Theune says firefighters are attacking flames from the ground, and an air tanker is helping monitor from overhead.

He says no buildings are threatened, and nobody has been injured.

Theune says the Spring break and the holiday weekend have drawn more visitors to the campground than normal.

He says it is unclear what started the fire.
