CHP releases local Labor Day DUI stats

The California Highway Patrol’s Indio office has released this year’s local Labor Day traffic statistics, and officers said the final numbers are similar to last year’s Maximum Enforcement Period (MEP).

The MEP for this year ran from 6 p.m. Friday to 11:50 p.m. Monday.

Officers said there was a total of eight traffic collisions, the exact same number as last year’s Labor Day enforcement, and thankfully nobody was killed during the holiday weekend this year.

The Indio CHP area also saw a similar amount of DUI arrests this year when compared to last year.

According to the release, there were 21 drivers arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence during this year’s MEP. Last year, 24 people were arrested for DUI during the Labor Day weekend.

CHP reminds everyone on the highways to obey traffic laws, wear their seat belts and never drink and drive.
