El Grito, Fiestas Patrias Festival in Coachella Sunday

A festival marking El Grito/Fiestas Patrias, which celebrates Mexico’s independence from Spain in 1821, is expected to draw more than 15,000 people in Coachella Sunday.

The festival, which starts at 3 p.m. at Rancho Las Flores Park, will feature folkloric dancers from Mexicali, live music, food, a beer garden and children’s activities.

It’s being organized in conjunction with the Mexican Consulate in San Bernardino.

The festivities end at 10 p.m.
