Coachella fire spreads to nearby palm tree grove

6:00 p.m. Update: The forward rate of spread has been stopped. The fire is confined to palm trees. Resources will be committed for a minimum of two hours for mop-up.

Cal Fire is on scene of a structure fire in Coachella. According to officials they got a call just after 5:00 p.m. reporting a fire on the 84-000 block of Miramar Court.

Firefighters say once they got on scene they found a 1,000 square foot abandoned structure fully involved. The fire has extended into a grove of palm trees, and is burning at a slow rate of spread. Due to high winds the incident commander has requested two additional engines.
