String of smashed windows in Palm Springs leave some businesses unsurprised
A string of smashed windows in Palm Springs Friday morning doesn’t have many businesses surprised.
Vandals struck two businesses and a school along Palm Canyon and another business across town.
First on the list the Verizon Wireless store at the corner of Gene Autry and Ramon Road.
The store manager said it isn’t the first time.
“Probably someone that was just walking by wanted to break in and usually that happens. It’s happened seven times at this location,” store manager Cameron Wilson said.
They didn’t take anything from the store this time.
“They’ve gotten demo phones, we have phones that don’t really work on the network but they just think they can sell it to someone off of eBay and they take car chargers. But anything that’s even worth anything is locked up every night so,” Wilson said.
Just across town a string of three windows smashed all on the same street.
A front window smashed at Dahlstrom Designs, a rock thrown through a window at the Mojave River Academy and another smashed at Rick’s Restaurant.
Workers in the area said it’s a problem, vandals even stole security cameras.
“It surprised me that they broke the glass but other than that things like this happen all the time,” construction worker Miguel Coasada said.
For Verizon, vandalism at the store is becoming routine.
“It’s not a surprise anymore so hopefully it doesn’t happen but there’s really no way to avoid it,” Wilson said.
Palm Springs police agree, they said these crimes happen so quickly it’s hard to catch someone in the act.
So for now all these businesses can do is clean up the mess and hope it doesn’t happen again.
