Walkers take over Palm Desert for “Paint El Paseo Pink”

The Desert Cancer Foundation’s 9th annual “Paint El Paseo Pink” fundraising walk kicked off Saturday morning at the Gardens on El Paseo in honor of breast cancer awareness month.

Survivors and families of those affected by cancer shared their stories. Pets and children walked in support, too.

“For every dollar they raise it equals $8 in care for people who might not otherwise be able get care or get mammograms or be able to take preventive measures,” said Palm Desert Mayor Jan Harnik.

The 2.5 mile walk raises money for Coachella Valley residents in need of cancer treatment and prevention. Organizers hope they beat last year’s turnout of more than 1,000 walkers.
