Power being restored in Palm Desert
Only 25 customers were without service as of 1:30 p.m. Tuesday after a Southern California Edison power outage occurred near Magnesia Falls Drive and Monterey Avenue.
Utility officials said they have identified the problem and they’re working to restore power to the remaining customers affected, but that may not happen until midnight. They originally hoped to have all customers back up and running by 5:30 p.m.
The outage impacted a total of 1,064 customers but most of them had power restored within two hours.
News Channel 3 and CBS Local 2 viewers said the outage had darkened the Westfield Palm Desert Shopping Center near Highway 111 and Monterey Avenue and it was affecting traffic in the area due to traffic signals being down.
We spoke to officials at Westfield Palm Desert and they said the outage only affected the north side of the mall, which included JC Penney.
Power was restored within an hour and a half and mall management said most customers just went to areas that had power, which led to good business for restaurants during the lunch hour.
