Fire at Banning High School determined to be arson

The fire that caused about $100,000 in damage to the administration
building at Banning High School Thursday morning was intentionally set, a Cal Fire Riverside spokeswoman said.

It was not immediately clear if authorities have identified suspects in the blaze, which broke out about 1:10 a.m. on the campus, located at 100 West Westward Avenue.

Students were allowed back on campus Thursday morning. Classes were continuing as scheduled, without interruption, after firefighters mopped up.

Riverside County firefighters were called to the school at 1:10 a.m.

They found two piles burning inside the structure and had the fire out within a half hour.

An alarm company had notified the fire department of a fire alarm activation. Four engines and 18 firefighters were called to the school.

There were no injuries.

Fire managers said resources were set to remain on scene to help with water salvage.
