Two elderly people die in house fire near Hesperia

Two elderly people died in a fire that ripped through their home near Hesperia in San Bernardino County Sunday morning.

Two other family members managed to escape the blaze thanks to smoke detector alarms. Neighbors in the Oak Hills area called 911 around 5 a.m.

Crews had the flames under control in about 20 minutes.

During a search of the damaged house, firefighters found the two victims dead in the room where the fire originated.

Officials said one of the victims was bedridden. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
