Shoppers save with Thanksgiving Day deals

Even before Black Friday officially started, thousands of people from headed out to shop and save hundreds of dollars.

Cashiers at JC Penny in the Westfield Mall were busy since 3 p.m. on Thanksgiving when the store opened with their Black Friday sales.

People lined up, buying gifts for under the Christmas tree, but many of them told KESQ they were just buying items for themselves.

Even though people are saving cash on the door-buster-deals they’re still spending a lot of money.

“It puts money into the economy doesn’t it, with all these people spending, it’s so very good,” said Jackie Kennedy who was in line to buy clothing.

“It’s always fun with lots of people here, it’s always a mad rush in when Macy’s open up no matter if we open up on Thursday or Friday, it’s fun to kick off the shopping season,” said Scott Wetter the General Manager of the Macy’s in Palm Desert.

Mean while, down the street at Best Buy some people waited in line for 12 hours to get a good deal.

“I’m getting a 60 inch big screen television and it’s $700 off of that, and another $200 off another television so I’m saving $900,” said Gary Christoffersen of Cathedral City.

But some supplies didn’t last for the later Thanksgiving Day shoppers waiting outside Best Buy.

“We were 20th in the queue and the TV that we wanted is already gone, so it was pretty quick,” said James Bricklell of Twentynine Palms.

KESQ caught up with Old Saint Nick as he walked around the Westfield Mall, taking a break from making toys for good little girls and boys. He says the majority of today’s holiday shoppers will be on the ‘Nice List.’

“It gives you the spirit of the feeling of Christmas, it’s not maniacal, people aren’t elbowing everyone, is polite everyone is dedicated to find what they want to buy,” said Santa Claus.
