Man arrested for arson & attempted murder after house fire in DHS
Update: The Desert Hot Springs Police Department has arrested the owner of the home and charged him with attempted murder and arson. An officer with DHSPD told KESQ over the phone that this is an on going investigation and was not able to release a name at this time.
The owner of the home was identified as 65-year-old Jerome Edward Stanton. He was booked at the Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility in
Banning where he’s being held without bail, according to jail records.
He is due in an Indio courtroom on March 1.
Original Story: Cal Fire has contained a fire that ignited in a 1,500 square-foot home in Desert Hot Springs Thursday afternoon. The house is located on Mountain Top Drive near Hacienda Drive.
Firefighters received the call at about 3:45 p.m. Crews had the flames doused at about 4:30 p.m.
News Channel 3 and CBS Local 2 confirmed that one person was injured after cutting their arm while climbing out of a window while the fire was burning.
We’ve heard conflicting reports about how the fire may have started. We’re looking into the investigation. Two men have been displaced from the fire and the American Red Cross is stepping in to help them out.
There were also two dogs in the home at the time of the fire but they also managed to escape unharmed.
No additional injuries were reported.
