Roads could be deadliest ever for Memorial Day weekend

Memorial Day weekend means plenty of cars on the roads and industry experts are predicting this weekend could be one of the deadliest weekends on American roads in years.

A new report by the National Safety Council estimates that more than 400 Americans will be killed on the road this weekend. That is the highest number since 2009. More than 50,000 are expected to be injured in accidents.

“There are a few people in a rush out there. They are just kind of moving in and out of traffic so you can see it being more dangerous with the number of people that are out there,” said Shian Weeresinghe who is traveling from Phoenix to Los Angeles.

“It doesn’t surprise me honestly with the increased traffic you are going to get a lot more crazies and people that are impatient trying to get to where they are going quicker and that makes it unsafe for sure,” said Dan Moore who is traveling to Lake Arrowhead.

The California Highway Patrol would like to remind drivers to not get distracted behind the wheel, don’t drink alcohol before driving, and don’t drive while tired.
