Man tasered by police after gun scare near Ralphs in Palm Springs
The Palm Springs Police Department arrested a man Tuesday afternoon when he allegedly pulled a handgun on a someone driving in the area of the Ralphs grocery store on Ramon Road and Sunrise Way.
The activity ended with the man being tasered during a police standoff, and officers locating a replica handgun in the man ‘s car. The suspect is described as white man who is about 25 to 30 years old. His identity wasn’t confirmed at the time of his arrest.
Some people were locked inside the grocery store while police were handling the incident.
Officers said they were called to 425 Sunrise Way at 1:10 p.m. after the victim said a man driving a silver vehicle pulled out a gun in a threatening manner. Officers found the suspect’s vehicle soon after in the grocery store’s parking lot.
Authorities said the suspect was near the driver side door of the car and he refused to cooperate with the officers holding him at gunpoint for the public’s safety.
The suspect yelled to police that they were going to have to shoot him. An officer was able to get alongside the suspect and tasered him. Police said the suspect immediately fell to the ground and was taken into custody.
Authorities said they found a replica handgun in the front passenger seat of the suspect’s car. The investigation is ongoing.
