Olympic diver Greg Louganis to be featured in ESPN’s “The Body” issue
Olympic gold medalist diver and El Cajon native Greg Louganis will be featured in ESPN The Magazine’s “Body Issue,” it was announced Tuesday.
The LGBT-rights activist will be the oldest athlete in the spread at 56.
“When I look around at my contemporaries, I’d say I’m probably in better shape than most of them,” Louganis told ESPN. “It’s all about making healthy choices. I think HIV has helped motivate me mentally and physically. I look at working out and doing something physically active every day as being as important as taking my meds.
“HIV taught me that I’m a lot stronger than I ever believed I was. I didn’t think I would see 30, and here I am at 56,” said Louganis, who attended Valhalla High School in El Cajon in the 70s.
In all, 19 athletes, including 10 men and nine women, will shed their clothes for the annual issue.
The issue will be posted online July 6 and the magazine will hit newsstands on July 8.
