Desert Aids Project offers free meningitis vaccine

The California Department of Public Health has issued a health advisory in Southern California linked to an outbreak of invasive meningococcal disease.

In response, the Desert Aids Project will offer a free Meningitis Vaccine to anyone requesting one. Their medical clinic is located on Sunrise Way in Palm Springs.

The outbreak is reported primarily among gay and bisexual men. Since the beginning of May, nine meningococcal disease cases have been identified in men living in Los Angeles and Orange counties. One patient died as a result of the infection.
