Coroner’s Office releases name of man killed in weekend accident

The Riverside County Coroner’s Office released the name of a man killed in a weekend car accident in Palm Desert.

55-year old Robert John Powell, was behind the wheel of a Honda Element, that police say, rear-ended an Acura MDX at 10:28 a.m. Saturday at Country Club Drive and Harris Lane.

Powell died at a hospital. The Acura driver was also taken to a hospital and treated for minor injuries, the sheriff’s department reported.

Westbound Country Club Drive at Harris Lane was partially closed for several hours following the crash, which remains under investigation.
