Local phone banks targeting voters in battleground states

Local Democrats and Republicans are both working until the very last moment to try to get support for either Hillary Clinton or Donald Trump.

Volunteers had a moment of song and prayer outside the East Valley Republican Headquarters in La Quinta on Monday afternoon. Supporters of Donald Trump and congressional candidate Jeff Stone put their faith in a higher power for a fair election.

“It’s all up to the Lord. It’s all up to God. Whatever is going to happen is in his hands so we are counting on him, said Joy Medicke, president of the East Valley Republican Women.

Volunteers continued to work the phones, and sometimes got negative responses from people who had already made up their minds not to vote for Trump.

“These ladies don’t deserve to be four-letter-worded and be told what to do to themselves,” said Gary Aptaker a phone bank operator who is working with a group of women making calls to possible voters.

Local GOP phone bank operators were targeting on a specific battleground state in the final hours before the election.

“We feel that if we loose Florida, then it is all over. If we win Florida and one of the other battleground states we can win,” said Robert Sylk, the chairman of Trump for the East Valley.

In Cathedral City, the Democrats of the Desert are also working until the final moments. Volunteers have been using phones to call battleground states and offering last minute help to local voters.

“People have been coming in here all day long asking where to go to vote, what do I need to do to vote, so we have been busy with all of it today,” said Ellie Kurpiewski the office manager of the Democrats of the Desert.

Darren Bradshaw is on vacation from England. Bradshaw can’t vote in our election but he still wanted to volunteer to try to get Hillary Clinton elected president. He volunteered at the phone bank for three days.

“It’s important, not just for America but also for the world. This is a historic moment and I am pleased to be part of this moment,” Bradshaw said.

Polls open at 7 a.m. Tuesday morning.
