Man struck and killed by a car in Thermal

A pedestrian was struck and killed by a vehicle today in Thermal. The crash was reported at 5:21 p.m. in the 68000 block of Harrison Street, according to the California Highway Patrol. This is just north of 70th Avenue. The man was pronounced dead at the scene. The Riverside County Coroner has confirmed the man was 54 years old, but has not released his identity.

The driver of the vehicle pulled over and cooperated with authorities. Just after the pedestrian was struck, a witness stopped their car in the road and was then rear ended. One person from that crash was taken to the hospital. No word yet on the severity of the injuries. CHP does not believe drugs or alcohol are a factor in either of the two crashes. No one was taken into custody.

The roadway was littered with several crushed aluminum cans. Officers would not confirm if the cans were related to the crash in anyway, The roadway was closed until about 8:45 p.m..
