City council warns of fake poll regarding vacation rentals in Palm Springs

Palm Springs City Councilman Geoff Kors is warning the community about a fake poll being conducted to provide misleading information to residents about the proposed vacation rental ordinance in the city.

The information is coming just ahead of Wednesday night’s special meeting scheduled at the council chambers in Palm Springs at 5 p.m. to discuss the Vacation Rental Ordinance.

Kors said the community shouldn’t be misled by the fake poll, which has calls coming from Washington D.C. The poll “is not being conducted by any reputable organization – on either side of the discussion – in our city,” Kors said in a statement on Tuesday.

Listen to the second robo call that was made to residents on Wednesday, which didn’t include the poll.

Apparently the people making the calls are asking residents their views based on the false information they provide.

Kors wrote, “This is deplorable. They are even falsely saying that the process which included eight public meetings was not transparent and that tomorrow [Wednesday] is a non-transparent study session, not a council meeting and wasn’t properly noticed. All lies. The only goal of the poll is to incite anger and create division. Whatever side you are on regarding this issue, this behavior is unacceptable.”

Kors went on to say, “We are a city of neighbors who treat each other respectfully. That is a hallmark of who we pride ourselves on being. To deliberately mislead people demonstrates a lack of caring about the residents, neighborhoods and city. It seems that for some the only thing that matters is lining their own pockets and they couldn’t care less about our city.”

Kors said if you receive a call, please send him the specific questions. Also, please come to the special meeting at City Hall Wednesday night at 5 p.m., an hour earlier than the usual starting time for council meetings.

City Hall is located at 3200 E. Tahquitz Canyon Way.

At the meeting, residents can learn the facts and share their views about the proposed ordinance. If you can’t attend the meeting, you can watch it live online.
