Rancho Mirage debuts dog park

Pooches now have a new place to play in town. Wednesday the city of Rancho Mirage debuted their first-ever dog park.

The $1.2 million project spans four and a half acres, with a seating area, wash station, and water fountains for pet owners and their furry friends.

“People are so anxious to bring their little doggies here, and big doggies, and they’ve been talking about it for ages. We’re just thrilled to finally deliver this product for them,” said Mayor Tim Weill of Rancho Mirage.

“I’ve been pushing a dog park as a concept and trying to find ways to set aside the money, now for 14 years, and this is the combination. We finally had a budget we could handle and a city council that is 100 percent in favor of a dog park,” said Hobart.

The new park, located off Dinah Shore, at the corner of Via Vail and Key Largo Ave, features a sitting area, waste bag and water stations and is split into areas for large and small dogs.

“It’s a great dog park. Lot’s of grass…and it’s huge,” said one dog owner.

Many dog owners say dog park visits will become part of their daily routines.
