Overnight rain and flooding close several roads

Overnight rain caused flooding and closed several roads that cross washes from Palm Springs to Coachella Tuesday morning.

The Cathedral City Police Department closed Cathedral Canyon Drive at its White Water Wash crossing Monday evening. A motorist had to be rescued there at 2:38 a.m. after getting stuck in the fast-moving water.

In Palm Springs, police also closed Araby Drive at the Araby Wash, and Indian Canyon Drive through the White Water River Wash.

Westbound Vista Chino Drive and Gene Autry Trail were both open to traffic, but motorists could expect to see lane closures because of water on the roadside.

In La Quinta, authorities closed Dune Palms Road to all traffic through its wash crossing Monday night due to water flowing over the road.

In Indio, Avenue 44 is closed between Jackson Street and Golf Center Parkway due to water runoff.

And in Coachella, Avenue 50 was closed to traffic near State Highway 86 due to fast-moving water flowing over the road.
