K9 officer helps apprehend female burglary suspect in La Quinta

A Riverside County sheriff’s deputy was injured while searching for a burglary suspect in La Quinta Friday morning, and a K9 officer helped apprehend the suspect.

The suspect, 26-year-old Pricilla Ayala, a transient of La Quinta, was inside the victim’s home in the 53800 block of Avenida Bermudas when the victim returned home. The homeowner called police at about 11 a.m. after seeing the front door was open and finding Ayala inside the residence.

Ayala ran from the home and illegally entered another residence in the 52900 block of Avenida Navarro, officers said in a release. She also locked the door. When officers entered the home the suspect was no longer inside.

A K9 officer helped track down Ayala to a shed near the home where she was hiding. Ayala was injured when apprehended by the K9 officer, according to police. She was taken to the hospital and treated for her injuries.

A lieutenant at the scene told KESQ News Channel 3 and CBS Local 2 that the deputy that was hurt, injured his arm after slipping and falling while searching for Ayala. The deputy was taken to the hospital for treatment.

Deputies left the property shortly before noon after arresting Ayala. She was booked into the Riverside County Jail in Indio for burglary.
