Two cats die in Palm Desert house fire

Firefighters battled a residential structure fire that broke out shortly before 12:30 p.m. on Monday.

CAL FIRE and Riverside County Firefighters responded to reports of a residential structure fire in the Palm Desert Gardens at the 73000 block of Haystack Mountain Drive in Palm Desert.

The first arriving engine company reported an attic fire in a single wide modular home. Crews put out the fire that left the home destroyed and killed two cats.

A neighbor tells KESQ News Channel 3 & CBS Local 2’s Alex Cheney that the homeowners are currently in Utah while a cat sitter was looking after their pets.

Three neighboring homeowners were evacuated while crews battled the blaze. One of those neighbors says the fire caused smoke damage to his home.
