High School Football Preview: Desert Mirage Rams
The Coachella Valley Arabs football team saw 190 players come out for their football program this season, Desert Hot Springs a solid 100, but in Desert Mirage there are just 30-players ready to wear the Ram’s Jersey this season. You only need 11 on the field at one time, so what they don’t have in size they will make up for in heart.
There is no debating that 2016 did not go so well for Desert Mirage.
“The facts are the facts Cody, this team gave up over 40-points a game and averaged less than a touchdown. They had nine running clocks.”
It was a winless campaign, they were 0-10, but a new spark in their head coach Eric Perry.
“I just get excited, I go see my daughters volleyball games or even in PE class playing horse with the kids I get that excited. Sometimes it might look like an act or show but that’s just who I am.”
“Been really good out here, training us really hard and we’re ready to take on who wants us too.”
The numbers are so small and so is the varsity experience coming back.
“I think we only have 5-guys with any varsity experience coming back.”
So it might not be about wins or losses this season but breathing life back into the program.
“Desert Mirage, we know we haven’t won a lot of games over the past few seasons but this season might be different so come support us.”
We are underdogs, we embrace that role, we’re trying to get better. Get better everyday, try not to keep score, or look too far ahead. Looking forward to the next play.>
