Firefighters retrieve irrigation worker who fell into trench in Thermal

An irrigation worker had to be rescued by firefighters after falling into a trench in Thermal on Friday.

The worker fell into a 7-foot-deep trench near the intersection of Avenue 58 and Buchanan Street at 7:34 a.m., according to the Riverside County Fire Department.

It was unclear what company employed the worker, who was taken to a hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

Nearly two dozen county firefighters were dispatched on the confined space rescue.

The worker was not identified.
