Mecca burglary suspect taken into custody

A Mecca burglary suspect was in custody Monday morning after police say he attempted to assault the Riverside County Sheriffs Deputies trying to question him.

Eduardo Esparza Silva, 53, of Mecca was taken into custody accused of burglary and resisting arrest at 4:23 a.m. Monday.

Deputies from the Thermal Station had been called to a report of a burglary in progress along the 91000 block of 2nd Street.

Deputies found a business with a broken front glass door and used a witness suspect description to locate Silva just to the east nearby.

That’s when Silva reportedly attempted to assault the deputies as they approached him.

He was detained and taken into custody, booked into the Riverside County Jail in Indio and held on $10,000 bail.

The investigation was ongoing and anyone with information was urged to contact the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department at 760-863-8990 or anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 760-341-STOP (7867).
