Whitewater Preserve hosts first annual end of summer clean up

Volunteers at the Whitewater Preserve were up bright and early this morning for the first annual end of summer clean up. They were going after all the trash left behind from summer visitors.

In an effort to motivate volunteers, preserve officials held a competition for who could collect the most bottle caps.

“The bottle caps tend to be a pretty ubiquitous piece of litter that we find around, and they take a really long time to break down,” said Jack Thompson, Desert Regional Director with Wildlands Conservancy.

Students from New Horizon High School in Banning were also bussed in to help with the clean up effort.
