Local relief efforts to help the victims of Hurricane Harvey

A number of Americans are coming together to show their support for the victims of Hurricane Harvey.

Here in the Coachella Valley, there are already relief efforts in place to assist those in Texas impacted by the storm.

We list several ways you can lend a helping hand:

Cord Media local hurricane relief effort

The public is welcomed to donate items to Hurricane Harvey victims at Cord Media Company in Palm Desert.

Donations are accepted through Friday September 15 at 43-645 Monterey Avenue, Suite D.

The public is encouraged to donate new personal care items, cleaning supplies, and non-perishable foods.

All donations will be delivered to Katy Christian Ministries in Katy, Texas on Monday September 18.

Help postal service employees hurt by Hurricane Harvey

To donate to postal service employees hurt by the storm, you can make an immediate donation to the postal relief website.

A donation can be through the mail and sent to Postal Employees’ Relief Fund at P.O. Box 7630 Woodbridge, VA 22195.

Donation drive organized by local business owner

Jasmine Ontiveros, a local photographer is doing her part in helping and is bringing donations in person.

She plans on renting a U-Haul and driving to Texas next Tuesday to drop off donations with her father.

She is asking locals looking to donate, to drop off the items at her business, Jayoh Photography located at 67690 Ramon Road Palm Springs and several other businesses in the west valley. Ontiveros said they are overloaded with clothes, she is asking the public not to bring any more clothes. They are, however, in need of all the other items.

All donations will be accepted before their drive to Texas on Tuesday.

Rebuilding America’s Warriors is sponsoring a clothing and toy drive for victims.

It will be held at the Palm Desert Marshall’s parking lot on 72469 Highway 111 on September 1 & 2 from 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

RAW is accepting clothing, disposable diapers, baby formula, bedding, toilet articles, toys, and other items of need.

The items will be taken to Texas in a truck on September 3 by Ron Fairly, Board of Directors for RAW and Maggie Lockridge RN. President of RAW.

Salvation Army Donations

The Salvation Army in Cathedral City says they currently do not have any provisions made to get items to shelters. However, they are encouraging monetary donations so the workers can purchase what is need locally. To donate by phone call 1-800-SAL-ARMY, send a text to STORM at 51555, or send a check to The Salvation Army at PO BOX 1959 Atlanta, GA 30301 and designate ‘Hurricane Harvey’ on all checks.

Donate to the Red Cross

The American Red Cross is looking to raise money for shelter and food. The organizations says monetary donations are preferred in order to keep shelters and volunteers in place.
