Authorities identify man in Desert Hot Springs homicide investigation

Authorities have identified the man whose body was found in Desert Hot Springs on Saturday morning.

The man has been identified as James Aviles.

A homicide investigation is being conducted after Aviles was found on Cahuilla Avenue near Palm Drive.

“It appears that it was not a traffic collision,” Desert Hot Springs Police Deputy Chief Jim Henson told KESQ News Channel 3 and CBS Local 2. “The reason it was considered a traffic collision is because there was a bike on the scene and the individual that found the person deceased saw the bicycle and thought maybe it was a traffic collision.”

Anyone with information is asked to call Detective Eddie Cole at (760) 329-2904, ext. 294.

Aviles’ family have set up a GoFundMe Page, if you would like to help with a donation click here.
