Person airlifted to hospital after being ran over by farming equipment in Mecca

One person was seriously injured Monday when he was run over by farming equipment in Mecca, the Riverside County Fire Department reported.

The victim was struck at 7:10 a.m. near Garfield Street and Highway 111, just north of the Salton Sea in Mecca.

The victim was run over by “an unknown piece of farming equipment,” said Riverside County Fire Department spokeswoman April Newman, adding that county fire crews arrived at the scene and requested an airship take the patient to a hospital.

The victim was airlifted with major injuries.

The circumstances of the accident remained under investigation.
