Coachella Valley rescues dogs impacted by Hurricane Harvey

Coachella Valley rescues are taking in 34 dogs impacted by Hurricane Harvey, as part of a Southern California rescue operation with San Diego area rescues.

The dogs were bussed from Ruston, Louisiana on Tuesday morning and arrived at Humane Society of the Desert in Palm Springs Wednesday afternoon.

One hundred and forty one dogs from PAWS of Northeastern Louisiana were being transported. San Diego and Coachella Valley rescues helped clear this shelter of homeless animals to make room for them to take in people’s pets displaced after Hurricane Harvey hit the south last month.

Humane Society of the Desert, Animal Samaritans, the Palm Springs Animal Shelter and Living Free Animal Sanctuary are all taking in dogs. Loving All Animals helped with intake efforts as well.

“The South has just a overpopulated pet population and y’all have just caring hearts out here and a different mentality and we are happy our animals are going to be loved by Southern California families,” said Stacie Choate who drove the bus from Louisiana.

Animal Samaritans says it will quarantine its 6 Texas canines for 7 – 14 days prior to making them available for adoption.
