EXCLUSIVE: Inside The Rowan Palm Springs
Perhaps the best way to put Kimpton The Rowan Palm Springs in perspective is to hear it described by someone who has worked at 12 of the brand’s hotels in five different locations.
“This one is hard to place, it’s so far and beyond,” Abe Liao, the general manger of The Rowan, said.
He gave me his very first TV interview about the hotel.
Palm Springs is a great cross of art and culture and dining. At the heart is the redevelopment project, and at the heart of that is our hotel,” he said.
We are giving you a first look.
“We’re 153 guest rooms, 1/3 are upgraded between suites, oversized rooms, mountain views. Total event space 4000 in the building and when you consider the rooftop it grows to over 10,000 square feet. We anticipate being very popular for events,” Liao said. “The views are unparalleled. It’s magical being right up against the base and peer out over the mountains. It’s something special.”
The Rowan not only has spectacular mountain views, it’s also dishing out various dining experiences.
“Four Saints, our rooftop restaurant. We also have a lobby cafe, a high-end lobby cocktail bar. For our hotel guests and evening locals we have High Bar,” he said.
“It seems like one of the most anticipated aspects is the rooftop pool and bar, everyone’s talking about it. Tell us about it,” Bianca Rae asked.
“It’s the first and only rooftop bar experience. It’ll seat 140 people, six really large cabana areas we can rent out. Seating is a mix of loungers and day beds. Build out bar,” Liao said.
During the day, the rooftop is for hotel guests only, but at 6:00 p.m., it’s open to the public.
“I don’t think it’ll be over-the-top clubby for lack of better word but very high-end, very subdued. We have our neighbors to think about when we’re operating the roof. Activated and fun,” he said.
An environment Liao says will suit all the demographics Palm Springs has – the young, the old, the past, the future.
“It’s universal. It’s current now, but also honors design past of Palm Springs and dining habits of our locals. I think we’re going to fill a space in Palm Springs that doesn’t exist right now,” he added.
Just like Liao said when compared to all the other hotels he’s worked at, this one is “like no place else.”
The Rowan is set to open mid November and they are taking reservations now.
