PSPD officers complete run for comrades killed in line of duty

The President of the Palm Springs Police Officer’s Association has finished a 50 mile run and walk to honor fellow law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty in 2016.

Officer Joe Cook crossed the finish line at 3:29 a.m. Friday morning after running laps for 21 hours and 29 minutes at Palm Springs High School.

The event began at 5 a.m. Thursday and was initially expected to wrap up by 9 p.m., with a few officers expected to run 50 miles.

Joe Cook is the president of the Palm Springs Police Officers Association, and he said he chose 50 miles because it happens to be his 50th birthday.

KESQ News Channel 3 and CBS Local 2’s Jeremy Chen ran with the officers for a little while early Thursday morning when the event was first getting started.

The officers ran in uniform and full gear to honor their fellow law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty in 2016.

Cook planned to take Friday off to rest then return to normal duty on Saturday and Sunday.
