UPDATE: Car crashes into pole in Palm Desert
A section of Varner Road remains closed on Thursday while crews repair a phone pole that was knocked down by a car on Wednesday afternoon.
Authorities received the call around 4:30 p.m. and responded near Varner Road and Badger Street.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the car completely sheared the phone pole and a person suffered major injuries, two other people were hospitalized.
The intersection of Varner and Badger remained closed for several hours due to damage that was done to the pole.
The roadway is expected to open sometime Thursday.
