The Village Pub in Palm Springs is set to reopen this weekend after being closed for 30 days following two violations.

According to the Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control, Village Pub was issued a violation following an altercation between an employee and a patron and a second violation in regard to a manager who was not qualified with the ABC.

A spokesperson with the restaurant issued a statement this week about the reopening but also a response to a video on Twitter that shows a dead rat in the bar:

“Great News – Village Pub Grand re-opening Saturday September 23rd at 11 AM. The restaurant is returning from a 30 day Rehab with a Fresh Look and a New Attitude!!

Today a video was released on Twitter from possibly 3 months ago and we believe it was posted to cause us damage and discredit our reputation. This video shows a dead rat in a rat trap which was found out of the public eye. Since we had this problem the health department has been here to inspect the restaurant and we have maintained our A grade rating in view of the fact that we have taken the responsible steps to combat this issue. The health department would not have allowed us to operate if there was any risk to the public.

We are looking forward to improving our quality, service and we acknowledge that we have not always lived up to your expectations. We would like to thank our loyal customers for supporting the Pub for 21 years and we want to continue to be the fun and liveliest spot in downtown Palm Springs the Pub has come to be.”

KESQ News Channel 3 reached out to Doug Osborn of the Riverside County Health Department regarding the Village Pub dead rat video.

He said the health department received a complaint in April, they found rat droppings and the bar’s craft services needed cleaning. The department gave the Village Pub a list of issues to fix and were going to inspect the bar again in May.

The next inspection was on May 10, and the health department found that everything in that list was taken care of.

The Village Pub extended their contract with their cleaning services, and added pest control.

There have been no inspections since May, along with no inspections in the month that the bar was closed, since the Health Department focuses on the businesses when they’re operational.

The Village Pub is re-opening this Saturday at 11 a.m.
