Rancho Mirage High School student rushed to hospital after fall from second story balcony

A Rancho Mirage High School student was transported to a local hospital Friday afternoon following a fall from a balcony on the second floor of the 300 building of the school.

The male student fell from the building during lunch, according to Palm Springs Unified spokeswoman Joan Boiko.

The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department was called and dispatched Cal Fire to respond to a medical emergency.

The student was transported to a local hospital and appeared to have a head wound and was conscious at the time of transport. The student’s parent was called and accompanied him to the hospital.

His current condition is unknown at this time.

Site and district counselors are on campus this afternoon to support any staff members or students who may have witnessed or heard about the fall and are in need of emotional or other assistance.

Rancho Mirage High Principal Teresa Haga issued this statement:

“Our thoughts are with our student’s family and all of us hope that he will make a full recovery. We also want all of our students and staff members to know their Rancho Mirage High family members are here for them to provide them with whatever supports they need now or in the future.”

Friday night’s home football game against Bell Gardens is still happening as planned.
