Victim identified in deadly big rig and truck crash
A big rig and a truck crashed around 5:00 Thursday morning, leaving at least one person dead. It happened on I-10 westbound east of Dillon in unincorporated Riverside County near Coachella.
California Highway Patrol says a service truck rear-ended a big rig and got dragged by the rig.
The driver of the truck, identified as 23-year-old Frank Mendez of Indio, died at the scene.
CHP says the driver of the big rig was a woman, she was driving when the truck hit her. She was not injured.

The collision is under investigation, alcohol and/or drugs do not appear to be a factor.

The number two lane is closed until crews can clear the scene. It should be open by 9:30 a.m. Drugs and alcohol do not appear to be a factor.
