TRAFFIC ALERT: Jefferson construction closes freeway again

UPDATE 5:00 a.m.: The freeway has been reopened to traffic, which is getting back up to speed. Expect related construction closures at Jefferson today.

——————-

Motorists were being detoured off Interstate 10 early Wednesday morning as construction crews worked on the freeway lanes under the new Jefferson Street interchange.

The freeway’s westbound lanes were shut down and traffic was being detoured off the freeway at the westbound Jefferson exit. Traffic was being diverted to Varner Road, then back onto the freeway at Washington Street.

Eastbound freeway lanes were open, but traffic was slowing for up to two miles to Monroe Street at 4:30 a.m.

Motorists coming from Indio Boulevard and Jefferson Street in La Quinta were also facing short delays merging with the westbound detour traffic.

Wednesday marked the second full freeway closure at Jefferson this week.

Local representatives attended a ribbon-cutting ceremony on August 17 to celebrate the interchange’s near completion.
