Truck fire on I-10 caused by refraction of sunlight

Firefighters were on scene of a semi-truck that caught on fire on the I-10 west near Bob Hope and Ramon Road in Rancho Mirage.

Crews arrived on scene shortly after 1:30 p.m.

Firefighters believe the fire was caused by the refraction of sunlight through the windows the truck was carrying.

The sunlight ignited the cardboard used to keep the windows and doors separated.

No lanes were closed as crews cleaned up the area.
