Thick as Thieves brings unique items to Palm Springs
There’s a new spot to spend your money in Palm Springs, but it’s not your typical home decor shop.
A quirky chalkboard quote is the first thing that greets you at Thick As Thieves in Palm Springs. The eclectic shop is the new kid on the block and so are its owners.
“We moved from St. Louis. Packed up our house, moved to Palm Springs, just to open this store,” said co-owner Jeremy Smick.
The store’s vibe is unique.
“It’s a 1920s bungalow. We did a little bit of renovation to it and in our minds, we restored it to its prior glory. So we let the floors shine through, painted everything bright white, and it’s this fun piece of history right in the middle of downtown,” said co-owner Samantha Calagirone.
The husband and wife duo are making it a priority to support other small businesses. They sell purses, candles, knickknacks and just about everything else.
“We just started selling women’s accessories, which is something near and dear to my heart. And I love having a place that’s fun, where you can shop with your girlfriends and find really unique pieces to take home or have here,” Calagirone said.
But Thick as Thieves is much more than just a place to buy unique goods. It also doubles as an event space.
“It’s an intimate gathering, so everything you do here is inherently special. It’s great for sizes 15 to 30 and we’ve got a courtyard space too. So you get to enjoy the beauty of the desert with the eclectic flair as well,” Calagirone said.
The owners want you to feel that you’re getting a personalized experience in their store.
“One thing we tried to do with a 200-square-foot room is to make sure it felt very intimate and that each person who walks through the door feels like they get their own personal shopping experience,” Smick said.
You can get that personal shopping experience Wednesday to Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
