Fallen servicemen honored at Palm Springs Air Museum

Local servicemen who lost their lives on the battlefield are being remembered by family members and by the community as we get closer to Veteran’s Day.

The Palm Springs Fallen Hero’s project is placing new banners honoring fallen servicemen at the Palm Springs Air Museum.

There are 27 local service people who were killed or went missing on the battlefield in wars from World War II all the way to Afghanistan.

These banners are replacing older banners that have been weathered and are sun damaged.

Duplicate banners are put on display in downtown Palm Springs for Veteran’s Day and Memorial Day.

Family members we talked to hope these banners help younger generations remember the sacrifices made for freedom.

“Everybody, especially young people like yourself know the sacrifice that America’s greatest generation made so that we live free and we can do as we please. We have choices now because of these people who made the world free for all of us,” said Kitty Kieley Hoyes, a Palm Springs teacher who had an uncle that died during World War II.

The banners are sponsored by various local veterans groups and some area schools.
