Ex-wife of slain NBA player waives extradition, to return to Tennessee

The ex-wife of former NBA player Lorenzen Wright will be heading to Tennessee to face first-degree murder charges in his 2010 shooting death.

On Monday, during Sherra Wright’s third extradition hearing in Riverside, her extradition was waived and a judge ordered a status hearing for Jan. 22.

According to Sherra Wright’s attorney, he expects his client to be back in Tennessee within the week.

Before Monday’s hearing, Tennessee Gov. Bill Haslam signed an extradition warrant to get Wright back to the state.

Sherra Wright’s current husband, Tim Robertson, appeared in the courtroom for the hearing and appeared teary-eyed during the proceedings. He ignored questions from reporters and put on headphones as he walked out of the courthouse.

Memphis police said that Sherra Wright, 46, faces charges in the death of her ex-husband, a Memphis native who played for five teams over 13 seasons as a forward and center in the NBA. Police records show she was arrested Dec. 15 in Riverside County.

Wright’s body was found in suburban Memphis in July 2010, 10 days after the 34-year-old was reported missing. He was shot multiple times.

The seven-year investigation into his death has been one of the Memphis Police Department’s most high-profile unsolved cases.
