Desert Hot Springs teacher named “CA Teacher of the Year” honored with street dedication

A Desert Hot Springs teacher named county and state teacher of the year was honored in a street dedication ceremony.

Dr. Brian McDaniel was named Riverside County and California teacher of the year. McDaniels was raised in Desert Hot Springs and is the band and choir teacher at Painted Hills Middle School.

The street dedication took place on the corner of Sonora and Avenida Jalisco, right next to the school.

“I’m beyond honored to have a street named after me here in Desert Hot Springs. I’m from Desert Hot Springs. I literally got to make my mark on my town,” McDaniel said.

“Desert Hot Springs has a lot of great things to share with people and in this case here with Dr. Brian McDaniel is that example,” said V. Manuel Perez, Riverside County Supervisor.

McDaniel will visit Capitol Hill at the end of the month as a national teacher of the year nominee and will meet with President Donald Trump to discuss anti-bullying strategies.
