Local classroom wins $500 for program teaching kids about character

Our April One Class At a Time Award goes to Mrs. Sandra Dunn’s Character Corps class at Herbert Hoover Elementary School in Indio. Mrs. Dunn focuses on helping these kids become genuinely good people.

Every month, KESQ and Walter Clark Legal Group award a local class with $500 for an educational or inspirational project.

This class teaches the students six core values: trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring and citizenship. They don’t just learn the words, but how to live them out as well.

“Some go to kindergartens to help, some go to the playground and demonstrate good values of character,” Mrs. Dunn said.

“We hear that character matters and it seems forgotten,” Walter Clark of the Walter Clark Legal Group said.

Mrs. Dunn says the money will go toward arts and crafts for ‘Fun Fridays’, awarding the kids for doing good in their communities during the week.
