Governor candidate Gavin Newsom meets with seniors in Palm Springs
Local residents packed the Mizell Senior Center in Palm Springs as current Lieutenant Governor and gubernatorial candidate Gavin Newsom made a stop as part of his bus trip across the state ahead of the June 5 primary election.
“I wouldn’t want to be anyplace else than here, in Palm Springs, and in the great state of California,” Newsom said.

Newsom is one of 27 candidates for governor. President Donald Trump endorsed Republican candidate John Cox, who said he aims to end Senate Bill 54, which limits federal authorities’ ability to detain suspected immigrants. Newsom supports Senate Bill 54.
“I support sanctuary policy, but sanctuary policy is not a get out of jail free card. Sanctuary policy does not sanction criminal activity, nor should it protect criminal activity. Those who commit crimes should be held accountable regardless of their immigration status,” Newsom said.
Sundra Holden drove in from Hemet to attend. She has already been homeless twice and is concerned about affordable housing prices across the state.
“The people that are working every day, 40 hours or more, and they can’t even afford an apartment in the downtown LA area, Downey, Hawthorne, none of those, you can’t even get a studio out there for less than 1250,” Holden said.
Voters on June 5 will decide who represents both parties on election day in the race for governor on November 6.
