Three Xavier Prep students involved in early-morning vehicle rollover

Three students from Xavier College Preparatory High School have been identified as the victims of a vehicle rollover accident occurring early Saturday morning in Indio.

Two students are still hospitalized and one has been released. According to friends of family members of the parties involved, one student is in critical condition and another sustained a serious back injury after possibly driving over a raised bump in the road too quickly, causing the car to flip. All three students involved are on the football team and one plays on the basketball team as well.

According to Chris Alling, the principal of Xavier Prep, students have been at the hospital all day to show their support: “The Xavier community is reaching out and students have been here all day and families have been here most of the day bringing out food and water and just really their presence trying to support and be available to these families as they struggle with all of this.”

Alling also says counselors and external resources will be available to any and all students impacted by the incident.

The school sent out an email to faculty and families acknowledging the accident and asking for prayers. Friends and family are also asking the community for thoughts and prayers via social media.

Mercy Air Ambulance crews flew one victim with serious injuries to an area hospital after the vehicle rollover on Avenue 42 and Madison St. in Indio.

CAL Fire and Riverside County Firefighters responded to a report of a traffic collision around 3:40 a.m. Saturday morning. The first crew reported a single vehicle turned over about 10 feet off the roadway.

Three victims were involved — no other vehicle was involved in the accident. The person with serious injuries was flown to a nearby hospital.
