Morongo Valley man pleads not guilty to eight counts of attempted murder

A Morongo Valley man who allegedly shot a man in Yucca Valley then led San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Deputies on a police chase through the high desert pled not guilty to eight charges of attempted murder, ten total criminal charges, in Joshua Tree court today.

He is being held on $7 million bail.

He is slated to return to court on November 7 at 8:30 a.m.

36-year-old Roger Tindell faces ten total criminal charges; seven counts of attempted murder of a peace officer/firefighter, one count of attempted murder, one count of assault of peace officer/firefighter, and one count of evading an officer.

Tindell allegedly shot 43-year-old Jonathan David Lakes at a residence on the 7400 block of Elk Trail in Yucca Valley. The shooting was reported at approximately 2:14 a.m. The caller who reported the shooting state that Tindell was observed fleeing the scene in a silver BMW.

Deputies located the silver BMW, attempted a traffic stop, and the vehicle failed to yield. A pursuit followed through Yucca Valley and Morongo Valley. During the pursuit, Tindell allegedly shot at the pursuing deputies, who returned fire.

Tindell then allegedly struck a Sheriff’s patrol car, opened fire once again, then was shot by one of the deputies.
