Local trick-or-treaters take to the streets in search for candy

The candy has been passed out and most goblins, ghouls, and ghosts are fast asleep, but there are still a few celebrating into the night.

KESQ & CBS Local 2 Lauren Coronado went all over the valley to see how trick or treaters were doing and to check out some of the most festive homes in the desert.

Local kids were wearing all the popular costumes, if you can think it, someone was probably out there wearing it. From mad scientists to Scooby-Doo, princesses and conductors, the Nut Cracker and a dinosaur, thousands of kids flooded valley streets in search for candy.

“What I’m hoping to get is a lot of candy..but not too hyper,” 9-year-old Evelyn Gomez.

If they weren’t trying to get candy many locals braved going into haunted houses.

“It was like they scare you, they just pop out, but they’re just humans dressed up, but its fun,” one trick-or-treater said.

Laura Newton has been hosting ‘Freddie Kreuger’s Haunted Graveyard’ for nearly 20 years.

But between the costumes, sweets, and spooky decor, crossing the street is the real scare. Pedestrians are four times more likely to be hit by a driver on Halloween than any other day of the year, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Despite the fears, kids we spoke to say they are well aware of the dangers.

“My parents always check the street before we cross the street because its dark out here and they have flashlights, phones, and we have these bracelets that help you see, and I normally look both ways to make sure there’s not a car,” a trick-or-treater told KESQ.
